Mentoring and Peer Tutoring
Each Gratia student will be assigned a mentor who will give advice to him/her in learning and in dealing with problems in daily life. He/she will act as a first port of call for the students. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their mentors during their study in Gratia.
Scheduled mentoring meetings will be held. The meetings will last for 1.5 to 2 hours. They provide students with the opportunities to discuss and address some important issues in their college lives. For improvement purposes, the mentoring scheme will be evaluated at the end of each year from the perspectives of students and mentors.
This Scheme serves to support Year 1 students (tutees) via peer-tutors and at the same time develop the peer tutors in servant leadership. It aims to provide assistance to freshmen in their adjustment to College lives, to cultivate peer support and their sense of belonging towards the College. Each freshman will be assigned to a group with two peer tutors selected from senior classes of the College. The peer tutors will be supported by SDO and the respective staff mentors throughout the year. An invitation to apply for peer tutors will be extended in March every year. Training of peer tutors will be delivered from May to August. Peer tutors will be expected to support the Student Orientation of the new cohort in September, and accompany freshmen in their first year at Gratia.
